Hi, I'm Sylvia and glad to have you at my humble internet home!
I've always wanted to be a mother and planned accordingly for it. In my pre-parenting days, I set out to accomplish some pretty amazing things. I thought I needed to get the "adventure" out of my system before I had a baby.
I got to volunteer in the Amazon rainforest, ride a toboggan down the Great Wall, and climb the Stairway to Heaven (a hike in Hawaii), just to name a few of those things.
When my husband and I finally decided it was time to have kids, I tried to plan for a settled-down life and even put together detailed spreadsheets and schedules.
But then baby came, and I realized my thinking was completely wrong.
The spreadsheets and schedules all went out the window (not a surprise), and the sense of adventure I thought I could suppress only became stronger. I realized that having a kid ISN'T mutually exclusive from having fun while I'm at it.
This quote from Jodi Picoult of My Sister’s Keeper (btw, HIGHLY recommend the movie...and for you to have a box of tissues when you watch it) stuck with me:
"24/7: Once you sign on to be a mother, that's the only shift they offer."

Since this is the case (for pretty much the rest of my life), I might as well enjoy the most of it.
Sure, my definition of "adventure" now is a lot different than pre-baby days, but it doesn't mean it can't be just as exciting.
In fact, you could say it's even more so now trying to figure out how to do this on a tight time, money, and space budget.
And to mark this new turning point in my life, I created Mommy Over Work to share fun yet practical ways to keep life interesting.
What You’ll Find at Mommy Over Work
I created this site as a means to collect and share ideas, tips, and inspiration for the things that make life worth living.
From how to keep life organized through bullet journaling, to making the most from your instant pot, to clever ways to save money shopping online, my mission is to make Mommy Over Work a convenient place to find practical tips and tricks to help others get more out of life that is functional and fun (and kind on your schedule and your wallet!).
I like to keep things simple in my own life, which translates over here on my blog. You'll find lots of lists and visuals, all with the intent to make your life easier and run a little smoother.
My favorite way to bring the fun and functional together is through planner stickers. If you love them as much as I do, here's a free set that I'd be elated to share with you through my newsletter:
I look forward to having you join me on this journey!
